HV Groundworks designs and constructs naturalistic ponds that enhance the beauty, ecology, and enjoyment of your property. Whether you envision a quiet wildlife pond, a recreational swimming pond, or a landscape centerpiece with waterfalls and stonework, we create ponds that are both functional and enduring.

Our approach begins with a careful assessment of your property's topography, soils, drainage, and long-term goals. Every pond is thoughtfully shaped to complement the surrounding landscape while balancing water depth, shoreline stability, circulation, and habitat. We emphasize practical construction methods and durable materials to ensure each pond performs well for years to come.

In addition to excavation, we provide guidance on aquatic planting, shoreline restoration, aeration, and ongoing maintenance to support clear water and a healthy ecosystem. Whether you are creating a peaceful retreat, improving wildlife habitat, or adding value to your property, our goal is to build a pond that looks as though it has always belonged in the landscape.

HV Groundworks offers fruit tree renovation and restorative pruning for older or neglected apple, pear, peach, and stone fruit trees. Over time, fruit trees can become overcrowded, diseased, or unproductive due to improper pruning or lack of ongoing care. Thoughtful renovation can dramatically improve tree health, structure, and fruit production.

Our approach focuses on selective pruning to improve airflow, light penetration, and branch strength, while removing dead, damaged, or unproductive growth. We assess each tree individually and develop a multi-year care plan when needed, as older trees often benefit from gradual renovation rather than aggressive, one-time pruning.

In addition to pruning, we provide guidance on soil health, mulching, and long-term maintenance to support healthy growth and reliable fruiting. Whether you are hoping to revive a few backyard trees or manage a small orchard, our goal is to help your trees thrive and produce abundant, high-quality fruit for years to come.

Land Clearing and Unwanted Vegetation Management

Over time, sections of a property can become overgrown, imbalanced, or dominated by vegetation that no longer serves the land or the owner’s goals. We help clients reclaim these areas through thoughtful, targeted clearing that prepares the site for its next chapter.

Our work focuses on mechanical removal methods that protect surrounding trees, soil structure, and beneficial plant communities. Each project is evaluated based on terrain, density, and long-term objectives, whether the goal is meadow conversion, orchard installation, trail development, or open-space restoration.

When needed, we combine full vegetation removal with strategic ground coverage techniques such as heavy-duty barrier fabric, cardboard layering, and organic mulching. This approach suppresses regrowth while allowing soil biology to rebuild naturally. We do not rely on broadcast herbicide treatments.

True land restoration does not end with clearing. We develop follow-up management plans that support soil recovery, native reestablishment, and long-term stability over one to two growing seasons.

Long-term results require steady attention. HV Groundworks provides scheduled follow-up visits to monitor sites, address regrowth, adjust ground coverings where needed, and guide the landscape toward lasting stability.

As conditions improve, we recommend reestablishing native plant communities, typically one to two growing seasons after initial clearing. Reintroducing regionally appropriate trees, grasses, and wildflowers strengthens soil health, increases biodiversity, and helps create landscapes that are both resilient and self-sustaining for years to come.

Healthy pasture is the foundation of any successful horse or livestock property, yet many fields throughout the Hudson Valley suffer from compaction, overgrazing, invasive species pressure, and declining forage quality. We help landowners restore and manage pasture through practical, ecologically informed stewardship tailored to the specific conditions of each site.

Our process begins with a detailed assessment of soil health, drainage, grazing pressure, and existing plant communities. From there, we develop a strategy focused on improving forage quality, increasing resilience, and supporting long-term pasture health. Recommendations may include soil amendments, overseeding, rotational grazing layouts, invasive species control, and native plant integration where appropriate.

We not only develop the plan, but carry out the restoration work itself, including selective clearing, soil preparation, seeding, and ongoing seasonal management. The result is a pasture system that becomes more balanced, productive, and sustainable over time.
